Supporting Charity

The Winterbourne Down Village Carnival prides itself on the money it has helped to raise for charity.  Each year charities are invited to take a stall at the Carnival for a small fee so that they can raise funds.  Many local groups have raised hundreds of £'s thanks to the carnival.  To find out how to book a stall see the contact us page.

Adopted Charity

Each year we adopt a charity and donate a substantial proportion of our profits to them apart from a sum we hold back each year to meet the costs of organising the carnival.  We always try to support a charity with local links with the area or local residents.

Our Charity for 2008 - The Jessie May Trust

Our Charity for 2007 - Paul's Place

The Winterbourne Down Village Carnival Committee's chosen charity for 2007 was Paul's Place, a charity based in Winterbourne which aims to enhance social life for the disabled in South Gloucestershire.

The charity provides support to physically disabled adults by providing them with a safe social environment at a Day Facility.  There are over 100 members from South Gloucestershire and Bristol who benefit from a programme of individual and group activities all designed to help them retain their independence and reach their full potential.

As our chosen charity, the Carnival will donate a substantial proportion of any profit we make to Paul's Place to support this very worthwhile local group to continue to support the disabled in and around Winterbourne.

The Jessie May Trust is a Bristol-based charity that provides a hospice at home service of nursing care and respite for children with a terminal illness. The very best place for children and young people with a terminal illness is at home where they feel comfortable and loved. However, caring for them is a relentless responsibility for parents, family and friends.

The Jessie May Trust provides a free Palliative Care Service for children and young people who are not expected to live beyond nineteen years. They work in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Our Charity for 2006

In 2006 the adopted charity was GAFSIP which is the Gambia and Avon Fire Services In Partnership who provide fire service equipment and support to the Gambian Fire Service.

Other Charities & Local Groups

We make a range of donations every year to many different local groups.  Beneficiaries have included the Police Benevolent Fund, local Scouts and Guides, The Red Cross Society, and the Friends of Frome Valley and lots of others.
