2013 is the 25th year of the carnival! A great celebration of community, the carnival has raised £000′s for charity and provides fun and entertainment for the whole family over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Our chosen charity for 2013 is the Great Western Air Ambulance. Proceeds from the carnival will be donated to this charity.

Celebrate 25 years of the Carnival on 4th-6th May 2013
We intend to make our 25th anniversary a very special weekend and you are all invited to join us. The theme for this year is ’25 Years of Carnival’ and we will be decorating Down Road as usual and asking residents to join in the spirit and display flags and bunting.

On Sunday, 5th May the Village Treasure Hunt will start at 2.00 p.m. from Winterbourne Down Methodist Church Hall. Refreshments will be on sale in the Methodist Church from 2.30 p.m., where you will be entertained, free of charge, by the Westerly Showband. Everyone is welcome. This will be followed at 6.00 p.m. by Songs of Praise in All Saints’ Church with entertainment provided by the Hambrook Primary School Junior Choir. The charity chosen for the collection this year is the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity. Let’s raise as much money as we can for this worthy cause.
Monday, 6th May is Carnival Day, when there will be a procession from Bradley Avenue shops, leaving at 10.15 a.m., to the Methodist Church grounds. This is our anniversary year, so it would be wonderful if we could have the biggest procession EVER. Please arrive at starting point by 10 a.m. because Fred will be offering a special prize for the best dressed participant in the procession. This will not impact on the judging of age groups which will take place at the Methodist Church grounds, as normal, and there are great prizes to be won. Remember to turn out any costumes with a carnival theme – clowns or crowns all welcome. Now is the time to start looking – don’t let this pass you by!
